grandma

Some friends recently lost their dear grandma and I have been feeling blessed to still have 2 special grandmas in my life.   On our last road trip we stopped in to see this grandma in her new place.  Even though we only stayed a few minutes, I'm sure the place will never be the same!  It is a cute and tiny spot and I could just back up enough to take a picture of the whole crew ... Great Grandma with 5 of her 19 great grand kids.  Hope I didn't miss anyone in my quick tally!

Speaking of this crew ... I guess I should have tried taking a few more pictures because this one isn't that flattering of some :)  Maybe someday my kids will learn to look at the camera and smile on command.  But, look how cute Gavin is!  And look at how good Grandma looks.  If I live to be 90 I want to be like her in more ways than one - her posture, her kind and gentle spirit, her thoughtfulness, her efficiency ....

I guess it has nothing to do with her being in her 90s!!  I'm sure she was just always this way.  But, I'm hoping there is some genetic predisposition that I could become like her!!

When Grandma moved into the lodge she purged some of her treasures.  I am so excited about some of those treasures she passed down to me.  Things that just make my sentimental heart sing :)  I should do a post about these treasures - a few things she had given to her as wedding gifts, books of gems and bits and pieces cut out of letters she received, gifts from Pakistan, and just some things from the house that bring back a flood of memories.  I guess they maybe wouldn't seem like much to most, but they are dear to me.  If I post about them with the details I remember now it will help those memories live on for my kids ... and they can pass them on to their kids!  I'm really getting ahead of myself!!!!

a few more

I realized after I posted the last pictures that I forgot to include these ones!  They don't go with the outdoor theme, so maybe that is why I forgot.  But, they made me laugh ... and maybe will make you laugh ... and I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on a good chuckle!

Or maybe it is only me that thinks they are funny.  That is what is great about blogs ... can't see any reactions to get embarrassed about!  Ha!

So this little treasure of a sign is on Michelle's hutch ... I just LOVE it!  If I come across one I'll be sure to buy it.  I also think that it is funny that the rolling pin is right beside the sign!!! Wildlife tamer?  Ha!

Speaking of wildlife ... this view from the stairs was cute ... and made me smile.  All these similar colored heads lined up.

NOTE:  The Wii can be useful in taming wildlife!!

I also forgot to mention that these pictures are from a couple weekends ago.  I got out of sync with Rhett getting sick.  He is back to "normal" now but it gets harder to remember the antibiotics twice a day when he is not longer symptomatic.  Yesterday I had to pretty much follow the bus to school because we forgot the morning dose before he left the house!  I think we should be done with this routine by Tuesday night.

fun times with family

You may remember from a few posts ago that the Service family came to visit us.  They told us that the road goes both ways so we decided to invite ourselves down to their house and try it out!  I sure hope they meant it.  Guess it is too late now ... ha!

This group of second cousins (and a couple extras) had a bit of fun together, as you can see from the pictures ...

Yes, it was a fun time and the weather was perfect!  Thanks again ... and again for mailing my phone charger :)

Now it is your turn.

health status update

Just a quick update:  Rhett is feeling much better and is planning on going to his friend's birthday party tomorrow.  He can hardly wait!  At about 4:00 he was asking if it was bed time so he could wake up and the party would be closer.
It was exciting when he started to show signs of himself on Wednesday ... provoking his siblings and even arguing a bit ;)  I think I can safely say that was the first and only time I was ever excited about that kind of behavior.  Ha ha!
He has to stay on antibiotics for 2 weeks; a better tasting kind!  The swollen glands might take a couple weeks to go down to normal size and right now he holds his head to the side to be most comfortable.  Might need some massage therapy after!!
