May 2012

Surprise!!! I haven't forgotten about my old blog! However, the Blogger website has changed since my last update and it took all month figure it all out again. Well, maybe not quite that long, but seriously though, it is much more fun to check out other blogs and let mine slip! So, it will be a quick update so I can get back to my "research"! Ha! Ha! Actually I've been very busy outside at this time of year. My hands tell the story, unfortunately. I did not know my hands had so many lines ... that are now filled with dirt! Might be time to make that hand scrub that I found on a blog! Back to the update: Keithan had his 8th birthday party; p.s. I did not make his cake. I was the very pleased recipient of some amazing deck furniture (now we need a BBQ to go with it). I went to a greenhouse to LOOK at plants and blew my budget (that's not on paper yet). I attempted wallpapering and decided I needed some proper tools and some helping hands (so it is still incomplete). The weather is fantastic and the seeding is going well (so they say). Party Time
Randomness
Greenhouse Goodies
Happy Deck

April 2012 Road Trip

The kids had a week or so off school for Easter/spring break so I decided it was a good time to head southeast. I hadn't been "home" since the reunion in August 2010 so it was time! Once on the road and into the 6th hour of driving ... I remembered why I didn't do the trip often!!!! That feeling also came over me at the gas pump :-) Of course, it was all worth it and we (Carla, Alyson and I) even managed to pull off a surprise 60th birthday party for mom without the kids blowing it! It was quite last minute, so maybe that helped! On Sunday night between 50 and 60 people came for a birthday BBQ. Still AMAZES me that she never suspected a thing! As you can see, we took a detour to see Gavin Tim, Carla and Gavin on the way to Grandpa's farm. Other events included stopping to see Grandma Woods for a great supper and evening, building a tree house without a roof or walls, visiting Frank and Zayna and touring the "tea-cup house", seeing Jarv and Alyson's house in real life :-), and a spectacular magic show by Daudi. I think that covers it!

Family Ties

These are a few pictures from the evening after Uncle Keith's funeral. It was special to all be together. I can't even remember when the last time all the cousins were together. I hardly know what else to write as I still feel an acute sense of loss when I think of Uncle Keith not being here as an uncle, a teacher and part of my support system. I miss his voice, his smile, his emails and seeing his name pop up on skype ...

February

I'm on a roll so I'm going to keep rolling with the old news!

On February 10th we (kids and I) were on our way to Calgary to spend some time with Auntie Marion and Uncle Harvey while they were there. It was timely that we were able to stop in Red Deer to see Grandma soon after getting word that Uncle Keith passed away. It was special to be there with Grandma and Wendy, although I'm sure it was Grandma who was the comforter. So, on family day weekend we said goodbye to a very special member of the family. I feel blessed to part of this natural family, but in reality I'm more blessed to be a part of a great spiritual family. I was just reminded again of what Uncle Keith shared ... "if you pray, why worry, and if you worry, why pray". Uncle Keith was a kind-hearted teacher and I hope to keep working on the lessons.

We really enjoyed our time in Calgary with Myles and Rohini, Tyson and Lori, Auntie and Uncle and also got to know Herb and Brenda. We were royally treated wherever we went, so it won't be hard to re-invite ourselves again:) The kids thought Herb and Brenda's place was a little heaven on earth with the great skating rink right out the door ... Zamboni and all (except it was scary if you thought it was chasing you)! I was hoping to see Jessica and her baby, but that didn't happen this trip. But, I did get to see Cross Iron Mills mall for the first time! Oh, about the out of focus pictures ... I left the camera out in the van and it just wouldn't defog quickly enough and we were already running late. Better than nothing was my thought at the time. Don't you agree?!
