February

I'm on a roll so I'm going to keep rolling with the old news!

On February 10th we (kids and I) were on our way to Calgary to spend some time with Auntie Marion and Uncle Harvey while they were there. It was timely that we were able to stop in Red Deer to see Grandma soon after getting word that Uncle Keith passed away. It was special to be there with Grandma and Wendy, although I'm sure it was Grandma who was the comforter. So, on family day weekend we said goodbye to a very special member of the family. I feel blessed to part of this natural family, but in reality I'm more blessed to be a part of a great spiritual family. I was just reminded again of what Uncle Keith shared ... "if you pray, why worry, and if you worry, why pray". Uncle Keith was a kind-hearted teacher and I hope to keep working on the lessons.

We really enjoyed our time in Calgary with Myles and Rohini, Tyson and Lori, Auntie and Uncle and also got to know Herb and Brenda. We were royally treated wherever we went, so it won't be hard to re-invite ourselves again:) The kids thought Herb and Brenda's place was a little heaven on earth with the great skating rink right out the door ... Zamboni and all (except it was scary if you thought it was chasing you)! I was hoping to see Jessica and her baby, but that didn't happen this trip. But, I did get to see Cross Iron Mills mall for the first time! Oh, about the out of focus pictures ... I left the camera out in the van and it just wouldn't defog quickly enough and we were already running late. Better than nothing was my thought at the time. Don't you agree?!

Gymnastics

This year (or school year I should say) Samara decided she would try something different than figure skating lessons. Actually, she would do everything going, but the time schedule doesn't allow it nor does mom's bank account! So this year she opted for gymnastics (Thursdays) along with music lessons (Mondays), volleyball then basket ball (Tuesdays). At least the school sports are free! But, I don't think gymnastics turned out how she planned ... you can't just start with cartwheels on the balance beam and fancy tricks on the bars!! So, the basics were boring for her, but good for her! And mom REALLY liked that it was easy to drop her off for the hour once a week, instead of tying skates and hanging around the rink twice a week! So these few pictures are from the fun meet at the end of January. She won a prize for her floor routine so she was excited about that. Sorry for the poor pictures! The moral of the story is she's waiting to do skating again next year :)
p.s. I LOVE Fridays

Grady + 4 years = Big Boy

I'm just a little slow at getting pictures up ... but I'm going with the theory that slow and steady wins the race! I'm not sure who I'm racing, but I'll go with that anyway. Back in January, Grady was super excited to be FOUR. He had a very specific invite list - Baby Denver, Baby Gavin, Auntie Carla, Uncle Tim and his neighbor friends Thomas and Sara. He doesn't realize how lucky he was that Baby Gavin and family were planning on being here that weekend anyway! Other special guests included Marjorie and Bryon, Leeann and Jeremy, and Steve. Being 4 is so fun: wondering if your clothes turned 4 too, wondering if you can pack your pack-pack with food so that it is ready when you go to school ... when you turn 5! That is one experiment I'd rather not try! The pictures seemed to capture his personality ... the little mischief maker himself and generally entertaining to be around!
